CHARLOTTE – The campus of Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology was transformed into a crime scene Thursday.
Students in the special topics exploring mathematics program learned how they could use algebra to analyze skeletal remains and solve a murder.
“It's more about how the kids are thinking and thinking about their learning and knowing that they can learn no matter where they are,” said Edwin Allen, teacher. “They can still learn and grow.”
Three hundred rising ninth-graders volunteered for the six week summer course that prepares them for high school algebra. The Exploring Mathematics curriculum is unique to Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools and was created by three teachers from the district.
