Manila, Philippines – Filipino students bagged 10 medals and two group awards in the 15th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest in Hong Kong from July 14 to 20.
Twelve-year-old Miguel Lorenzo Ildesa of PAREF Westbridge School aced the individual competition by getting a perfect score and winning the country’s lone gold medal in the contest.

“The Philippine Team has been consistent in winning in the contest. They are the pride of our country,“ said Dr. Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG), adding that the country won 10 awards in the contest last year.
Filipino silver medalists this year are Sedrick Scott Keh of Xavier School, Raphael Villaluz of San Beda College Alabang, Shaquille Wyan Que of Grace Christian College, and Terence Brian Tsai of Chiang Kai Shek College.
Winning bronze medals are Mark Christopher Uy of Xavier School, Jinger Chong of Saint Jude Catholic School, Luke Matthew Bernardo of Philadelphia School, Xavier Jefferson Ray Go of Zamboanga Chong Hua Academy, and Genesis Jacinth Tan of Quezon City Science High School.
In addition, Philippine Team A composed of Chong, Bernardo, Uy, and Go and Philippine Team B composed of Tsai, Miko Johnson Ong Co of St. Stephen’s High School, Bon Leif Amalla of Colegio San AgustinBinan, and Juan Pablo Abola of PAREF Southridge School each won a merit award in the group contest.
Other Filipino students who joined the contest are Faith Villahermosa of Butuan City SPED Center, Marjana Ysabella Montanez of Heneral Pio Main Elementary School, and Rollylan Samarita of Itaas Elementary School.
