Learning maths now a walk in the park 22-07-2012

BHUBANESWAR: The Kendriya Vidyalaya-I in the city has set up a mathematical garden on its premises in a bid to create interest among students in mathematics and to teach them basic mathematical concepts through fun and games.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatghan has decided to celebrate 2012 as the year of mathematics. The project, named Ramanujan Mathematical Park, has been taken up as part of that.
"The garden is a unique concept using which students can easily learn basic mathematical shapes, formulae and concepts. In books they can see 2D pictures of mathematical shapes, while here they will get 3D views. Besides, it would be easier for teachers to explain students the formulae," said Trailokyanath Mishra, a mathematics teacher at the school. The garden will be used by students from lower classes to the secondary level, he added.
There are as many as 20 exhibits in the garden in the shape of mathematical objects like cone, cylinder, prism, cube, hemisphere, circle, cylinder, triangle and so on.
