Mind Reader Cards

Today, I am going to share a strategy which I normally call fun learning mathematics . I use this technique in an arrangement period or free period or something like that. All of us are fascinated by numbers.We have prepared 6 blocks of numbers .Numbers in each block are added according to a mathematical rule .I will discuss the rule in the end.Firstly, how to use these blocks of numbers?
1.Ask a student to choose any number from 1-63 and tell him not to tell you the number.
2.Then show the blocks of numbers and ask him to tell you the block numbers in which his number is hidden.
3. Add the numbers at the first place in the blocks choosen by the student and surprise the young mind by telling the correct number.
I am sure that each and every child in the classroom will be interested in knowing the trick.

How to prepare these 6 blocks of numbers?
The idea is very simple.We Know that 2^0 =1, 2^1=2, 2^2=4, 2^3=8...and so on. What we have to do is ,just express the numbers from 1-63 as a sum of powers of 2 .e.g.
1 = 2^0 = 1 (Place 1 in the block whose first number is 1)
2 = 2^1 = 2(Place 2 in the block whose first number is 2)
3 = 2+1 (Place 3 in both the blocks having first number as 1 and 2)
4 = 2^2 = 4
5 = 2^2 + 1 = 4+1
6 = 4+ 2
7 = 4 + 2 +1
8 = 2^3 = 8
9 = 8 + 1
10 = 8+2
11 = 8+2+1
12 = 8+4
13 = 8+4+1
14 = 8+4+2
15=8+4+2+1
16= 2^4 = 16
17 = 16 +1
18= 16+2
.....
63 = 32+16+8+4+ 2+1
Like this blocks can be constructed.
The students find this activity very interesting and their mathematical skills are tested as well.
