Lake Ridge Academy Math teacher Wade Zwingler has inspired students to create a mathematics app. Nationally recognized by President Bush, Mr. Zwingler received the President’s Award for excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and is currently applying his skills to guide students in creating a mathematics app for Android and other online uses.North Ridgeville, OH (PRWEB) August 30, 2012
The idea developed during December of 2011 when Mr. Zwingler overheard his nieces and nephews playing monopoly in an adjoining room. “I thought I would walk in and see them all playing around the kitchen table, but instead I walked in and saw them all playing on their iPads,” he says. This observation gave Mr. Zwingler the idea to create a math game that would be both fun and educational for the young, technology driven, generation.
Not knowing much about programming, Mr. Zwingler contacted a friend, Dr. Ben Blake, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at Cleveland State University, to help him and a few Lake Ridge Academy students create the math app vision.
Dr. Blake offered to help them free of charge on one condition, that Lake Ridge Academy start aPrograming Club. Lake Ridge Academy Upper School students, along with Alumnus Kim Hamper, Math teacher Margot Calcut, Dr. Blake and Mr. Zwingler work on the Math app weekly through the newly formed Programing Club. They hope to create the math app soon and through the process learn more about programing.
